In 2004, Taizhou gained sustainable development of the national economy and stable enhancement of its economic strength. The comprehensive economic strength of Taizhou was above the average level of Zhejiang. Its GDP totaled RMB 117.379 billion, 13.6% above that of last year counted at the comparable price levels, in which added value of the primary industry was RMB 9.67 billion, a growth of 0.1%; that of the secondary industry RMB 68.6 billion, a growth of 14.2%; and that of tertiary industry RMB 39.11 billion, a growth of 16.4%. |

Taizhou¡¯s per-capita GDP in 2004 was at RMB 21,177, 13% above that of 2003, and its gross financial revenue was recorded in Zhejiang, as reaching RMB 12.667 billion, 16.7% above that of the previous year, during which its local financial revenue amounted to RMB 6.26 billion, 18.8% above that of the previous year. In 2004, the annual per-capita disposable income in cities and towns was RMB 16,113, which increased 12.8% deducting the element of price, among which the per-capita disposable income of the urban residents got RMB 16,651, coming in second in all of the 16 satellite cities of the Yangtze River Delta Area. The annual per-capita net income of the rural residents reached RMB 6,008, 6.8% above that of the previous year deducting the element of price.
The financial situation went smoothly. The year-end balance of RMB deposits from its banking institutions reached RMB 116.407 billion, 10.2% above that of the same time last year. The balance of savings deposits from urban and rural people was RMB 60.108 billion, 10.9% above that of the same time last year. The consuming capacity of the urban and rural residents was further strengthened, and the nonproductive expenditure of urban residents was over RMB 10,000. The retail amount of social consumables achieved RMB 30.29 billion in 2004, an increase of 15.5%. |

Taizhou is privileged to have natural resources and industrious people. It is the main home of grain in Zhejiang. It is mainly a fishing area and home to many of China¡¯s fruits and was the first place where the per mu output of rice exceeded 500KG.and 1,000KG in China. |
| Pursuing the goal of ¡°strengthening agricultural efficiency and increasing peasants¡¯ income, ¡±Taizhou further restructured farm production, gave energetic support to develop the agricultural benefits and obtained stable development in agricultural production in 2004. In 2004, the total output value of Taizhou in agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fishery RMB was RMB 17.412 billion, 3.8% above that of last year, and its gross agricultural-economic revenue amounted to RMB 256.3 billion, 13.0% above that of last year. |

Green Unpolluted Production Base? ?Taizhou has 213 large-scale crop production bases and had formed the preliminary district layout of advancing agricultural products. Taizhou has 271 unpolluted agricultural product production bases of approximately 0.22 million acre., among which 186 were established at the province-level, with a coverage of 0.11 million acre. 42% of the main agricultural products in Taizhou reached the Standards of Unpolluted. Taizhou had 15 agricultural products awarded the right to use the label of Chinese Organic Foodstuff, 55 agricultural products awarded the right to use the label of Chinese Unpolluted Foodstuff, 86 newly certificated as National Unpolluted Agricultural Products, and other 55 newly certificated as Unpolluted Agricultural Products of Zhejiang. |

The Farmers¡¯ Professional Cooperatives Continually Strengthened The Chinese farmers¡¯ professional cooperatives was first set up in Taizhou, and soon approved as the experimental unit of national farmers¡¯ professional cooperative by the National Ministry of Agriculture. By the end of 2004 there had been 379 cooperatives set up, among which 28 were listed as national or provincial model cooperatives involving 40 thousand farmer families. They had created sales income of RMB 3 billion and had repaidly returned members over RMB 0.3 billion. Taizhou now has formed 10 agricultural-industrial unions, respectively, referring to live pig, milk, poultry, agricultural machinery, orange, bayberry, watermelon, tea and so on. |

Building a Green Taizhou? ?Taizhou had further proceeded quickly to afforest plain and constructed coastal shelter forest. In 2004, it finished a total forested area amounting to 4.430 hectares, its hillsides-closed area to facilitate forestation amounted 2,320 hectares and its forest coverage was 62.2%. |

The Promotion of Export-oriented Agriculture ??In 2004, the export amount of self-conducted products amounted to RMB 0.378 billion, 47.6% above that of last year. 29 agricultural investment projects were signed, abstracting overseas investment USD 32.621 million and RMB 0.24 billion. |

Fruits ??As one of the well-known leading fruit production bases of China, Taizhou abounds in more than 200 species of Huangyan Tangerines such as Bendizao, Zaoju, Zaoshuwuheju and so on. The Bendizao and Gongneiyiyuju had been awarded gold medals many times. In recent years, Linhai Seedless Tangerines surpassed Huangyan Tangerines becoming more popular and got more and more certificated brands. The China Circulation Association appraised Gongchuan Tangerine as the gold-medal product in 2000. Yuhuan Pomelo, as one of the world¡¯s four most famous pomelos, had been conferred as the best pomelo in China for 8 times. In addition, Taizhou has been famous for the land of bayberry, orange and loquat. 9 brands of fruit, including Bendizao and ¡°Dongkui¡± bayberry, from Taizhou were awarded the title of famed brand product at the China Int¡¯l Agro-Expo 2001. In the Zhejiang Agriculture Exhibition 2004, 71 products were awarded the gold-medal of quality agricultural products. Huagyan ¡°Jiufeng¡± Bendizao, Xianju ¡°Tianding¡± Bilv Tea, Wenling ¡°Yulin¡± Watermelon won the title of ¡°the Top Ten Favorite Agricultural Products in Zhejiang¡±, the other four brands of watermelon won the title of? ¡°the Top Ten Quality Watermelon in Zhejiang ¡±, and the other 3 tangerines won the title of ¡° the Top Ten Famous Tangerine Brand in Zhejiang¡±. |

The industrial economy developed fast. In 2004, the industrial enterprises of Taizhou achieved a gross industrial added value of RMB 61.426 billion, 14.2% above that of the previous year and amounting 52.3% of the city¡¯s total output value. The state-owned enterprises and the private industrial enterprises with annual sales income up to RMB 5.0 million (called as above scale) created a gross industrial output value of RMB 131.163

There were 220 industrial enterprises respectively with a gross industrial output value over RMB 0.1 billion in Taizhou in 2004, 65 more than that of the previous year, and achieved a total gross industrial output value of RMB 65.773 billion. The 9 grand enterprises, such as Qianjiang Motor, Geely Holding Group, Feiyue Group and so on, all created a gross industrial output value over 1 billion. The industry structure has been further optimized. The manufacturing industry has played more and more principal role in the industrial economy. The gross industrial output value of the manufacturing industry among above-scale enterprises reached RMB 125.761 billion, 29.1% above that of last year, and taking 95.9% of that of above-scale enterprises.
The above-scale light-industry enterprises created a gross industrial output value of RMB 62.111 billion, 21.2% above that of the previous year; and the above-scale heavy-industry enterprises created a gross industrial output value of RMB 69.052billion, 35.1% higher than that of the previous year. |
